My feeling is that there is no advantage of using a shotgun mic with a
parabola, except maybe minimizing picking up noise from near the
parabola. A omni mic is usually used as they are slightly more immune to
handling and wind noise.

I have a webpage with a concept for a simple homemade parabola using a
Telinga dish, which is available separately from Doug.

Note while I showed that design using a tie tac mic, it can be adapted
to a wide range of mics.
