I put that up a while back, it started out as a way to have everything
easily accessible for frog Id in the field. Only existed in my powerbook
at first. Eventually enough folks saw it and asked if I'd put it up so I
fixed it up a bit and got it up. When it first started it was mostly
other folks photos and recordings. Nearly all is my stuff now, except
for the tadpoles, I've not started that photography yet.
It's, in addition, a summary of the results of our work on the Georgia
Herp Atlas, at least as far as frogs and toads. Kept up to date with the
latest on locations I find. The 5 year Herp Atlas project finished last
year but I still update what I find or what others report to me. They
are still trying to digest the thousands of records I provided in order
to get the study published. 37 CD's full of short site recordings
documenting them.
The frog CD I'm working on now is a outgrowth of that project. Like all
the rest of this, I'm a unpaid volunteer. I'll be replacing all the call
clips on the site soon using the stuff I've been working on.
The Frogs and Toads website averaged over 200 visitors a day this year
so far. The average person does only check out about one frog species at
a time, however. I get notes from all over the world about it.
Anyone can set up a website, there's not much to it as long as you have
access to some space on a server. The original purpose of the web was to
do exactly this sort of thing. Kind of forgotten in all the rampant
commercialism, but there are thousands of folks all over the world
providing info on all kinds of things.
I'm just a retired biologist.
Walt
