Walt, Nevertheless this is where I learnt my basics. When the data is on the MD the transfer, the editing, the EQ-ing, normalizing, mastering and so on is the same as for nature recording. When I was talking about recording I did not limit myself to the mic and the recording device, instead I was talking about the basics including getting it in the computer and editing it on the computer. I think the links I provided cover all the questions Shaun asked, but you are free to give us links that are more specific. I am always willing to learn.
