3.5" MO in sizes from 128meg to 1.3 gig. I've not gotten one of the new
2.3gig drives yet. Mostly I use 640meg as I can get those cheaply by
watching Ebay.

Yes CD is optical, but until recently nobody called them that. The MO
have always been called optical. I choose optical at about the point
that zips were first invented, over the various removable HD setups then
available. And, of course, zips were never in the running. I've used
them ever since, no disk failures, no drive failures.

Since MO is rated well in excess of 50 years I'm not near so sure. They
also have the advantage of a protective shell (similar to MD in that
regard). And, they are rewriteable up to a million rewrites. In practice
they mount and behave like a hard disk on the desktop, but slower, more
like CD speeds. This is a big advantage for working backups. I've even
used a MO as a boot disk by just copying a system onto it.

CDR's are priced so low now I doubt there will be much research into
better disks. The current crop seems a little more durable than some of
the early ones.

Yep, I'm seeing a lot more of the 80's lately.

Interesting they should burn hotter.
