Evert;
I have produced six CD's of bird songs and am working on a seventh. I agree
with you, from my own perspective, the best recordings are those that require
no editing. I don't think I have achieved the "perfect recording" , but a few
of my recordings have required absolutely no editing. I get a tremendous
feeling of satisfaction telling the sound engineer not to change anything. I
also add narration, to inform or build a word picture around the subject. I
think my productions are about 60% art and 40% science. However, I always
lament not getting a better recording of some species. The poorer recordings,
frustrate and linger in the memory, more than the good ones. In other words,
there is a personal competative element to always try and do better recordings
not edit more.
