Doug,

I think the problem may lie with the settings in Windows and not with the
browser. It is possible for a program, web page, or other nefarious
activity, to mess with your preference for how you want a sound played based
on its file name extension. Try this and see if it helps:

For Windows 98 (and probably beyond)

In My computer or Windows explorer, in the View menu, click on Folder Options.

Click the File Types tab.

Click on the file type(s) you want to change.

Click Edit

In Actions, click Open

Click Edit

In Application used to perform action, enter the program name (cooledit).
(You can usually browse to find it, otherwise figure out where its installed
from right clicking on the shortcut and looking at properties.) Once you
have the program identified click on OK.

This fine explanation can also be found using windows help but you have to
know to look for the index entry for "file extensions" and "associating with
programs". Why would they want to make it easy to find out how to do this?

Hope this helps.

Greg
