Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the group. I have been reading the posts for a few
weeks now. I first became aware of nature recordings after
stumbling upon Gordon Hempton's "Earth Sounds" collection
some years back. I'm excited to discover this group where others
share the same appreciation of the bio and environmental acoustics.
Lang Elliot's "Calls of Frogs and Toads" audio guide was
an eye opener. I had no idea there was such an amazing variety of
sounds to be heard. It really enhances the listening experience in
the wild when you recognize the various voices, where the otherwise
untrained ear would not be able to identify the presence of a given
species.
This spring, the sounds of my local wetlands finally pushed me over
the edge to collect some recording equipment and make some recordings
of my own. So here I stand, I have successfully managed to capture
my first half dozen hours of various environmental sounds, generously
interspersed with aircraft, wind, automobiles, boats and of course
the sound of the microphone cable swaying against the tripod in the
wind. My recording objectives are to recreate the sounds of a given
natural environment for the purpose of sharing with others and for my
own listening when can't be out in the field.
