I'm still using Peak 2.6 VST on my G4, but have version 3.0, which is
supposed to run native in OS X.

Peak is a good general editor, but depends partially on outside filters
for anything in the way of filtering/sound modification. SparkXL is
awkward to use as a general editor, but has a very good filter set with
it. SparkXL also has a very nice sonogram display. Version 2.5 is just
out for OS X. I'm awaiting the arrival of my free upgrade.

I use Peak for general use and SparkXL for filtering and sonograms. I
also have used SoundHack for sonograms (it's shareware and also coming
out in a OS X version)
