Building the franken recorder?
You are, at this point approaching $700 for your "recorder". And it
still won't do Phantom power. That's yet a third box to juggle. And
that's not counting batteries for each box.
I personally try to keep the number of objects I'm juggling to a
minimum. One recorder that does it all. Saves a lot of grief out in the
dark recording frogs. Less cords to tangle or snag on the brush.
Optical links are fairly fragile, I wonder about their use in a field
recording situation.
