Welcome from me, too, Adam. We especially need your expertise and
views. We always hear repair is needed but hard field in which to make a
living.

I continue to be amazed at the breadth and depth of expertise assembled
here. Hope you can help on a lot of our repair and improve questions. Do
I understand you currently are in California? As you may already know, we
have every nature sound seeker you could imagine in this group. I am also
glad it has not turned, as many tech groups have, into a small competition
of who knows best!

Subject: directional bass?

Welcome Aaron will check in with you more when I have a min to
consider repair and not just toss in the corner.

Question for the acoustic people in an area I am very weak. I seem
to have run into my first directional bass and it seems to violate
all the rules of sound that I know.

Yesterday I was in the center of a large lek of Greater Prairie-
chickens. About 75 birds.

There were many types of sound but when the neck of the bird is blown
up like a baloon a low pitch is sounded. This low pitch is heard as
comming from my feet although the bird is more than 20 feet away. I
don't understand how such a low pitch can have a direction and how
the direction can be so clearly wrong. Has anyone seen or know of an
explaination for this?

see without direction the sound in mono:

I really don't understand how this can happen. Any help?

Rich Peet
