SONY TCD DAT: Transferring digital files directly into a PC

Subject: SONY TCD DAT: Transferring digital files directly into a PC

I had wanted to directly import DAT files from my SONY TCD-D10 DAT
recorder into my PC. I inferred from some prior postings on this listserv
that earlier shipments of that model came with separate cables for
digitally outputting from the DAT recorder via S/Pdif and AES/EBU. Mine
only came with a AES/EBU output cable. After tracking down SONY
professional equipment at their new address/phone in Calif., I found that
the S/Pdif cable for the DAT recorder is no longer made.

So with help from several people on this listserv, I finally found a simple
box (CO3) that toggles input or output among 3 formats: S/Pdif,
AES/EBU, and an optical TOSlink format. I connected the DAT recorder's
AES/EBU cable into the box and then connected the S/Pdif output from the
box to a USB cable (Edirol UA-1D) to transfer the file. It seems to work
well. Thanks for everyone's help.
