That appears to be best choice, or at least most popular.

The thing to note here is that I've read that Dell has a lot of
proprietary stuff in their computers. He'd definitely want to find out
from Dell about changing the CD. He might have to buy the replacement
from Dell. That's why they make the stuff special. If it's ok to do so
then the internal is a nicer way to go.

USB CD-Burner's seem to work fine. I'm a luddite and prefer SCSI for
this sort of thing. That's very reliable.

His big problem is going to be with only 2 gigs of HD space he's going
to be real short. Probably better think about a much larger HD. Editing
just one CD will take close to half his HD space.

Pretty much his choice on these two. Analog, as long as you have the
grounding good is fine.

Note in using a USB based input that his sound output will get routed to
it. I've explained this problem before. So make sure whatever you get in
the way of USB input has a headphone connection to monitor traffic both
ways. That's how I use my Roland UA-30.

On the Aiff files, you might be better if you can to simply save them as
.wav for him. I could not find in the Cool Edit pages where it reads
Aiff. Claims to read multiple formats but that's all I could find on the
2000 version.
