be aware that there are limitations with the minidisc format, in terms of
compression and quality, quality sounds ok (cd like) but you can only get as
far as 44.100, which in enviromental sound might loose a lot....

Re: NetMD

Also, you can only record TO minidisc at MDLP2 or MDLP4, ie at 2x or 4x
the already borderline MD compression.

The combination of these two limitations completely hamstrings NetMD and
renders it useless for the field recordist...

Spoken bitterly by someone who records almost exclusively on MD.  I'm
currently using EDL's MD Transfer Editor to move MD recordings to the PC
digitally over SCSI, but it's an expensive, perhaps boutique, solution to
a problem that Sony could have solved years ago.  Why they couldn't have
at least enabled NetMD to allow effortless upload of recordings that
originated in the analog domain, or even soley at the "mic in", I can only
imagine.
