If you are a regular at Jerrabomberra Wetlands, you are aware of the turtles wandering around this time of year and into Summer. If you are interested in knowing more about the Turtles, come along to our information
night.
We will be holding a volunteer information and induction night on the
Thursday 15 October, 6pm to 7:30pm at Jerrabomberra Wetlands Office (2 Dairy Road, Fyshwick) with Dr Bruno Ferronato from
Turtle Watch, Ginninderra Catchment Group.
If you want to volunteer, volunteers will be asked to patrol the reserve as well as the ICON treatment plant fence line, across Dairy Road from the reserve, to search for turtles on the move and turtles digging a hole to lay eggs throughout
November and December. Volunteers will record sighted turtles on
TurtleSAT, and those who are trained in using Field Maps will record nesting turtles on Field Maps as well as cover the nests with mesh. Patrols are short walks through the reserve and along the Dairy Road boundary on warm, wet mornings, days, or evenings,
to find turtles. Volunteers can sign up on the information night or contact to express your interest.
