The woodland bird survey at Gooroo north was held on the same morning as the Mulligans Flat survey, cool and damp. The winter rains have given us a good display of the early spring flowers - fields of Early Nancy and
Creamy Candles. The grass is green but cropped short by a myriad of macropods.
Highlights of the morning included nearly stepping on a Bettong, and finding a young
Bush Stone-Curlew still with its downy plumage. Plenty of spring migrants –
Pallid and Shining Bronze-Cuckoo, Noisy Friarbird, Rufous Whistler, Sacred
Kingfisher, Olive-backed Oriole, Leaden Flycatcher, Western and White-throated Gerygone,
White-winged Triller, Dusky Woodswallow. Other interesting records were
Superb Parrot, Varied Sittella, Speckled Warbler, several Mistletoebird
and a couple of active White-winged Chough nests.
