Thanks Doug, while my soon to be out column in the July issue of Gang-gang indicates that the
Fan-tailed Cuckoo, the least migratory of our local cuckoos, was still reported
from 7 locations in the past month, in my experience having 4 together is unusual.
In respect of Superb Fairy-wrens still in full breeding plumage, I have seen at least 6 such individual males in my local area of Cooleman Ridge/Narrabundah Hill over the past
month. Perhaps due to the warm start to winter?

Subject: [Canberrabirds] Fantailed cuckoos and a fairy wren
Maybe an unusual observation for this time of year this morning at the ANBG; up to four Fantailed cuckoos calling loudly and excitedly and possibly chasing each other. Overwintering juveniles practising a bit of vocal mimicry perhaps, or
late departures for points north tricked by the warmer than usual weather - or least likely I would imagine, could they even be early returnees!? Also saw a fairy wren in full breeding plumage. Seems a bit early.
