Dear members

It is that time of year when I turn my mind to planning field trips for July-December 2026.

Firstly, I would like to thank those of you who volunteered to lead outings in the first half of the year.  Without you, we would not have had such an interesting and varied programme, including to places not previously visited. 

Now I am calling on volunteers to lead trips for the rest of the year.  You DO NOT need to be an experienced birder, because there will always be some of those present to help you on the day.  If you have a favourite spot that hasn't been visited in the last 3 years, or if you have access to private property that has a good range of birds, I would love to hear from you.

Having just scrutinised my spreadsheet of trips since 2000, I have come up with a list of places that have not been visited for at least 3 years and, in some cases for more than 10 years. See attached. We particularly neglect Namadgi NP beyond Apollo Road so I have included some suggestions for places further south.

Trips can be just a morning, all day, or longer camping or accommodated trips.  If you are new to leading trips, I will provide you with a set of guidelines and am happy to answer any queries you may have.
