The autumn woodland survey of the 9 sites on the eastern lower slopes of Mt Ainslie was carried out on 20 March by Brian Gritner and Michael Lenz. It was a mild and calm morning .
The most widespread species were again Crimson Rosella and Noisy Miner (each at 7 sites), followed by Sulphur-crested Cockatoo (5), Red-rumped Parrot and Spotted Pardalote (4 sites each). The first 5 sites were dominated by parrots (7 species, including several Superb Parrots and a group of 3 Gang-gang Cockatoos) with hardly any small birds. At site 7 we encountered a mixed feeding flock, raising the species profile considerably.  Species of note: Western and White-throated Gerygone, Rufous Whistler, Olive-backed Oriole, White-eared Honeyeaters, and several Noisy Friarbirds in areas with flowering mistletoes. Especially pleasing  was to find 5 Common Bronzewing and 3x Speckled Warblers. Both species have been absent/almost absent for considerable time. Less vigorous growth of weeds (as a result of a dry summer), allowing better ground foraging for these species, may explain their re-appearance. Birds of prey were absent and Australian Raven was only recorded once (as also noted during the summer survey).
33 species were recorded in total (25 at the sites, 8 along the route).
