A little contribution to the archive, prompted by many people saying that Kelly Swamp looks ‘completely different’, and the popularity of photography from Cygnus Hide. The upper photo is from the west of the pool, from
2008 when you could walk to that side. The red arrow indicates the spoonbill nest tree now largely gone. The remains are the ‘dead tree’ mentioned by Kim, although still with a few epicormic leaves. In 2008, the lush foliage obscures Cyghus Hide in this
snap. I have great affection for the tree’s companion, ‘the log’ (blue arrow). This is still visible when the typha dies down (have photo from 2019). The snaps of egrets by the log are from 25 years ago, the early days of popular digital photography.
The lower photo, again from Cygnus, shows one of the recently emerged spoonbills by the log, perhaps a bird much photographed in its mature years. An alert observer might see a Black Duck and Chestnut Teal and a tortoise.
