Subject: New version of HANZAB due next week
A new version of HANZAB is due to be released
next week.
The main changes will be:
- Species, orders and families align with AviList 2025
- Subfamilies are retained in HANZAB even though they are not included in AviList 2025
- The sequence of ducks differs from AviList 2025 because of the grouping by subfamilies in HANZAB
- See species entries for treatment of subspecies (subspecies are included in AviList 2025 but have not been finalised)
- English names for species
- Most are the same as AviList 2025 with:
- 170 using the WLAB4.3 name rather than the AviList 2025 English name because they are different.
- Of these, 87 (51%) the only differences are in hyphenation of the name. Eg. Australian Brush-turkey vs Australian Brushturkey; Baudin’s Black-Cockatoo vs Baudin’s Black Cockatoo.
- The remainder (83) have significantly different English names. Eg. Australian Little Bittern vs Black-backed Bittern.
- The AviList English name, where different, is included in the entry so the AviList English name can be found by using the search for ‘All items containing …’ the AviList 2025 name
- Search has been improved to exclude the underlying code
- Comments will be active. Comments will be moderated to ensure they are appropriate and focussed on improving the information in HANZAB entries.
There are many other changes which will be described in the Release Notes page.
I will send a message after the new version is released.
Cheers
Steve
