It has been pointed out to me that this individual was probably suffering from Beak and Feather Disease, with the plumage becoming very oily because the disease affects normal plumage functioning.

Sad.

Anyway. just now, nr Hughes Primary School, north-side, a male Gang-gang that looks like it fell into an oil slick. Still some feather patterning visible, but very dark overall, even the crest is purplish, not crimson.
