Hi Jack
I meant to….

I haven’t had any , we only had a few calls early in the season but no offspring . About a week ago at Giralang Primary School I heard  male and female.

I know Mark had one adult in Kaleen early and I have heard one adult at the Kaleen shops but nothing else.

An interesting season

Denise

Good morning subscribers, there was only one response to my message last week of a very early Koel fledgling from late November/early December in Casey.

This morning, I located my first for the season, a very small, recently fledged and very quiet one across Darwinia Tce in Rivett, eventually fed by a RWB when it was a bit more vocal.

In the interim, has anyone else observed a Koel fledgling to date?

Has anyone recorded any Koel fledglings this season?  If so, I would appreciate short details such as date, suburb and if possible, host.

I haven’t so far and from all the adult activity within 100 m from our house for the past week I suspect they are still establishing territories.  There have been up to 5 birds at a time, with much calling (such a wide range by both species), confrontations/standoffs between females, males or females and males, as well as males chasing females or other males (in one case 3 birds).

They’ve also often been happy to sit out in full view on fences, wires etc.  It’s almost been a full-time job keeping up with them.
