Nature at its Finest with Wildbark @ Mulligans Flat

Canberra Birdos @ Wildbark this Saturday

For the last time this year, this Saturday morning the fantastic people from Canberra Birds will setup their display at Wildbark and be available to warmly receive all your avian-related questions - where to go to see birds, what bird you did see, and the ubiquitous "can I feed the birds"?

Koels (above) are a type of cuckoo. They lay their eggs in the nest of another species, with the foster parents unwittingly rearing the young cuckoos. In Canberra the familiar Red Wattlebird is the usual foster parent - they also live an endless Summer, over-wintering in Papua New Guinea and coming to the Australian mainland to breed during Summer.

Their call sounds like their name. Picture by Julie Clark.

Summer Holiday Fun

Nature-loving school holiday programs

Our December and January school holiday programs are now bookable.  Here's what Stephanie [real name] had to say about our Spring program:

"this was the best school holiday program my kids have ever been to. Being from Canada I missed the opportunity for a program that had them outside all the time and is very structured without sitting in a school hall all day"

School Holiday Nature Adventures

Latham's Snipe Community Day @ Jerra Wetlands

On Saturday the 6th September we will be running a series of guided walks to showcase what we have learnt about the Latham's Snipe at Jerrabomberra Wetlands. We have supported research into the Snipe over the last 10 years at the wetlands and have learnt a great deal.

These events are supported by the Australian Government's Urban Rivers and Catchments Program

(Latham's Snipe by Olivia Congdon - from our 2023 Threatened Species Photo Comp - current Comp on display until mid-December)
