For interest, have a look at the photos on Deb and Rod R's eBird Checklist at
https://ebird.org/checklist/S277332613. Such events are not very often caught on camera in such detail.
Whistling Kites are well known scavengers but they are also opportunistic hunters, so presumably this Silver Gull was in the wrong place at the wrong time (at least as far as the Silver Gull was concerned). I have mentioned these photos to multiple people
this week , with one person suggesting that the Gull must have been already debilitated to have been successfully taken by the Kite. I have no idea about that - the photos may or may not shed light on the matter.
