Reach out to Made Surya

Local guide who does Bali and West Java trips.   I've hired him twice for day trips when there.  He will do customised multi day trips, including to West Bali National Park (Taman Nasional Bali Barat)  for the Bali Starling if you want to go all in on birding Bali.

Nice bloke and would recommend him.

Cost.  I don't remember, it wasn't cheap compared to other activities in Bali but he certainly knows were the birds are.  There are some European guides on the island but they are booked out well in advance and are more focused on long tours through the archipelago and beyond.

You can self guide to some degree.  The sewage works at Nusa Dua are easy to access and has cement paths around the ponds.  Just walk in.  No cost and you can see a lot there and easy to get to from the normal resort areas.  I'd highly recommend a visit and I often am up early to visit before returning to our resort of a late breakfast with my wife.

The mud flats here at low tide are worth a look if you have appropriate footwear for rock and shell filled mud that you can sink into somewhat.  Don't try to do it in crocs or thongs, that will fail (experience).  The flats are extensive.  The coordinates below are where I accessed them from as my wife has a timeshare in the resort right there, but the public road goes to the water.  There are eBird hotspots around the bay that I haven't visited but I assume are all the same type of mudflats and mangroves.

The botanical gardens in the moutains are very walkable. I've been there with Made Suraya and he knew exactly where to go, what we were looking at and what the calls/songs were and is great and locating birds.  However, you could go here yourself and self guide.

Hope this is useful.

Cheers

James.

Good morning all,

I will be in Bali for several days in November and was wondering if
anyone has used the services of a professional birding guide that they
would recommend and, if possible, the approximate cost they paid? At
this stage I am not sure exactly where I will be staying.

Many thanks in advance.

Mark
