Since my presentation to the 12 February COG/Canberra Birds meeting now nearly 2 weeks I have had only 5 reports of clearly new Koel fledglings.  Also, I haven’t heard or seen one locally (or anywhere else for that matter) for well over 2 weeks, and I’m starting to feel that the expected bumper season is coming to a surprisingly early end, with the likely total very similar to (or even below) the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons of around 170 fledglings reported.

Has anyone seen/heard a Koel fledgling recently that hasn’t been put on eBird or reported directly to me?  If so, I would be very grateful for some brief details, such as date and place, length of the tail and amount of black around the head/chin, as well as the host if possible?

Many thanks

Jack Holland
