Thanks for the link Geoffrey,
The garden caretakers have been doing a lot of spraying of late so I will ask what they are using.
Adults seem to be fine and healthy but are picking at their legs but photos show no problem like mites.
If you need some golf balls they will likely bring them to my place and I can collect them for you :)

Sad, Shorty.
Pesticides and deliberate poisoning would need to be considered.

I would expect any investigation would focus on condition of the adults. So a mystery if they are healthy.
It wasn’t all that hot on Wednesday.
Speaking of dark thoughts towards the local birds, the A Ravens at the Narrabundah Pitch and Putt have resumed taking balls.

Subject: [Canberrabirds] Australian Magpie nest failures
Hi All,
At the beginning of the season my resident Magpies built a nest and had some young hatch, the nest was high in the tree so I could not see the young but could hear them. After a while the nest failed, I assumed they may have been preditated.
Not long after they built a new nest in a different tree and again two young hatched and with the nest being lower down I could see the two young when being fed by the adults but again the nesting seems to have failed. The adults have been
seen taking food to the nest but no young seen. This morning one of the adults removed one of the deceased young and placed it on the ground. I had a look at it and could not see any obvious cause of death?
Any ideas on what could be causing their young to be dying? Could it have been the hot day we had on Wednesday?
