At the September meeting we learnt from Brett Howland and Laura Rayner about the ACT government's work to produce a Canberra Woodland Bird Quality Index Map.

Despite Canberra seemingly being a well-birded location, there are still areas of the local reserve system with few or no bird records (maybe for good reason). Now a map is available on Canberra Nature Map through the Surveys page Surveys - Canberra & Southern Tablelands (when you go to "Add a sighting" the dropdown menu will show "Surveys", and the map is found under "Survey points". Canberra Woodland Bird Quality Index Map survey points - Canberra & Southern Tablelands

Records need to be a 2ha/20min survey, and can be entered in ebird or Birdata.

So jump on and find your local data-deficient cell. We'd love a survey for the Blitz, but if you don't get around to it on the weekend, these surveys are ongoing so you can pick away at the several hundred cells in your spare time.

cheers
Nicki
