I’m pretty sure a pair of NKH’s are nesting on Giralang Pond. They may have
been doing this for years and I have missed it but this year I noticed they had
stayed on the pond when they usually depart the first week of spring .
I also had a pair of White Browed Scrub wrens nesting in the large ( 40 year
old) maiden hair fern on my deck. They raised one batch of two and proceeded to
lay again a couple of weeks ago . Yesterday our resident Currawong found the
nest took both chicks then proceeded to demolish the nests ( I think there may
have been 2 ) .
Behaviour of the wrens was amusing I am raising an orphan Red wattle bird and
one of the adults was annoyed enough by the constant chirping it came into the
house to complain. Then spent a minute or so in the lounge , I thought it was
going to clean up the spiderwebs sadly not. Flew back out and continued to
complain outside .
On another note a pair of pelicans have visited the pond twice in the last
week.
