Good morning all
About a week ago, my local Eastern Spinebills turned up with a brand new young bird, making it their third successful nest for the spring/summer. I still have no idea where the nest is, however I suspect it is just across the street in a big native front
garden. I'll have to make a concerted effort next season to find the nests!
An unusual thing I've found about the young birds raised this season is that they have recently been calling a lot, and I mean A LOT! I have noticed a couple of young birds making the piping call often and for long periods of time. It sounds like they
are practising as the calls don't sound clean, and they are a little erratic with timing and cadence issues. They are calling for five to ten minutes at a time - one bird called for 90 minutes!!
