Close observation this morning of bronzewings (habituated) feeding on grain reveal no blinking or any eye closure when pecking.
The original report on the now tracked painted snipe ('Gloria') was its presence in a group of 25 ! Surely atypical ? I've only ever seen pairs or 3 if with a young. In Namibia Greater painted-snipe seen once in a group of 6 with 2 young.
