Morning Jack,
My wife heard a Pacific Koel near the Kaleen Plaza last Friday (I was on my way to a banding trip at West Wyalong) and heard, then saw one in our GBS area on the Saturday.
On the weekend there were large mixed flocks of White-browed and Masked Woodswallows from Ariah Park to where we were banding at The Charcoal Tank Nature Reserve south west of west Wyalong. I estimated that the flock
feeding in the flowering ironbarks at TCTNR was over 500 birds and about 90% White-browed , 10% Masked. The “noise” from all the calling was terrific to hear.
I am hoping these flocks this will continue when I lead a “tag along” birding trip to the Lake Cargelligo region at the end of this month, it really is a spectacular sight.

Subject: [Canberrabirds] FW: Where are the Koels this year? Also RainbowBee-eaters?
Thank you again to those who responded to my call last Friday (6 October) for Koel observations, with calls being heard in Watson, O’Connor and Griffith. Amazingly there have none been recorded
on eBird since, that is until I just posted the one I heard in Rivett this morning.
There was only one response to my similar Rainbow Bee-eater request, with a couple of birds reported to the S of Canberra on 3 October. The first and only report on eBird so far is a single bird
at Stromlo Forest Park West on 7 October. I understand none were reported during the K2C surveys on 8 October.

Subject: Where are the Koels this year? Also Rainbow Bee-eaters?
Hello subscribers, hard to believe but only 2 records of the Eastern Koel on eBird in the COG Area of Interest (AoI) so far this spring, both in September, when for the past few years there have
been quite a few before the end of that month. Has anyone made any other observations?
Also no records on eBird so far this spring of the Rainbow Bee-eater in the COG AoI, though otherwise I do have one for September which is again the month the first arrivals have been recorded in
the past few years. Again has anyone made any other observations?
Many thanks
Jack Holland
