Hello Canberra birders,
I am looking for volunteers to help with the annual census of bush stone-curlews at Mulligans Flat.
Background
Bush stone-curlews were extinct in the ACT from the 1970s until their reintroduction at Mulligans Flat commencing in 2014. This project would not have been possible without the ongoing support of Canberra Birds, who have been a key stakeholder
since the project’s inception.
Survey details
The survey will run on Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th September from 8am-12pm. You can sign up for either day or both. Morning tea will be provided afterwards.
Volunteers will be assigned a section of the reserve to search on foot for bush stone-curlews. This can be done alone or in small teams. You are welcome to sign up with a friend and let me know who you would like to do the survey with.
Volunteers are asked to bring binoculars to read leg flags. Cameras are also fantastic if you have one, but not necessary.
Aside from bush stone-curlews, there is a good chance that you will see mixed woodland bird feeding flocks, echidnas, and other wildlife.
