Geoffrey,
Darwin Ducks. I agree with Paul Darmody (the Bungendore butcher who owns the feedlot at Trucking Yard Lane).
Many years ago, probably the late 90’s, I was on a boat tour of a big billabong half way from Darwin to Kakadu. There were thousands of PWD’s and also 2 Wood Ducks. The tour guide had no idea what they were. I suggested she/he get up to speed on them as they may become more common than PWD’s in the wetlands.
I went back some years later to check on the status of Wood Ducks but that section of the billabong was overgrown with water lilies and no longer navigable.

Yes, timing is important.  And remembering (if you still can).  The Dickson wanderers were attracted to fresh lawn seeding.  Some might remember that the amiable Trucking Yard Lane grazier calls them ‘Darwin Ducks’, a name not recorded in Fraser & Gray (2019).

I guess it is a matter of timing to see the PWD. For the last 3 months I have seen 2 there on every visit, last visit was on the 22nd where the cows came for a drink pushing them into the dam allowing me to get a rare ( for me ) photo of them on the water.
