And another one at Narrabundah Hill along the northern boundary, begging constantly and being fed by a pair of busy wattlebirds last Thursday.
Speaking of begging young, last Sunday as I walked the track alongside the Molonglo River towards Barer Hill I encountered a large number of yellow-tailed black cockatoos, some perched, some flying in and out of the pine trees, some carrying portions of
pine cone. Perhaps 30 birds, could have been more, and there was, to quote the Australian Bird Guide, a lot of “continuous rasping begging calls” which I guess meant a number of them were juveniles, presumably being fed by the adult birds carrying the pine
cone portions. And presumably that means they were breeding somewhere up in the Brindabella and are now dispersing around Canberra?
Another interesting sighting, a pair of wedge-tailed eagles circling high above my house in Holder.
Cheers
Rod
