Thank you all,  We have had a seasonal terrirtorial dispute -  the boundary is our neighbours driveway - very well defined and parties cross it at their peril.  The groups from both sides have disappeared.

There has also been a marked reduction in Currawongs - that would try to steal food from young.  Still a couple about though.

Audible, but not visual, increase in Koels and Kookaburras. Localwattle birds OK.

I'm not a birdie - I just like animals, and I'm very fond of the maggies.

I'll let you know what happens.

I agree with Philip, the breakdown of territories can change things quite dramatically and the “resident” birds do move about somewhat.

Unlikely or just local or short term. The Magpie is the most present species

in Canberra suburbs. As in the most consistent species with minimal

variation between months and years, and even sites. Maybe at this particular

time and area there has been a territorial rearrangement between different

family groups and they have not yet resettled a "demilitarised zone"
