There were, I think 4 (could have been 5) koels around my home on 31 December. I have not noticed any juveniles yet so far this summer.

Hi Jack and John
We, in Emu Ridge Belconnen, have been – and still are – hearing many Koel calls this season, but unlike last year, haven’t seen any young (or their feeder ‘parents’) nearby.
As a matter of possible interest, we spent new year (30/12 to 2/1) in Junee with friends and distinctly heard a Koel calling on 1/1. There was no-one to ask, our friends not being bird people, so I’m wondering if Koels are “regular visitors”
in that region?

Thanks John, still plenty of Koel calling action here in Chapman/Rivett, including quite frantic whoaing/kek kekking when your e-mail arrived. Only 1 local fledgling so far, and only 6 that have come to my attention, the lowest number
for by around this time for quite a few seasons. Jack Holland

For those interested, koels were heard from our place daily for 32 days – previously it was very unusual to hear them – however the calls ceased four days ago and since
I haven’t heard a single peep, wurra or weep.
