A response to my Eastern Star Finches message inspired me to tell this separate story.

We do often get strange bird identifications. This morning I attended a group social event in which another member there showed me the entry for Pacific Golden Plover in Neil Hermes’ new book (that I recommended to him). Stating he had a Pacific Golden Plover perched on the power lines in front of his home (in Pearce). My reaction was “no way”. He did show me some very poor quality photos of the subject bird. Head was not visible and the rest was just dark on the photo, but it clearly had short legs and a very long. distinctly brown barred tail. I told him it is a female Koel.
