Ben Boyd National Park, within which Green Cape is located, has been renamed (30 Sept) Beowa National Park. Beowa is the local indigenous name for killer whale.
eBird is renaming all affected hotspots to reflect the name change.
(Boyd was involved in “blackbirding” - bringing South Sea islanders to New South Wales as cheap labour.)
A trip report and photos from COG’s recent trip to Green Cape lighthouse will appear in December Gang-gang. Those who were on the trip were treated to the amazing spectacle of many thousands of shearwaters in and over the water below the lighthouse, good
looks at Southern Emuwrens and Striated Fieldwrens, among many special moments.
