Yes paywalls are annoying, but don't forget you can always email to ask one of the authors for a pdf of the study. They will almost universally be happy to share pdfs for private use.
That should be especially true given that the authors are more or less locals (also, I  am an author on the first of the two studies mentionned in the Conversation piece).

It's a pity the full study is paywalled.
