Yes indeed Joan and Trevor (and Kim), your record (and Mark’s earlier one of 25 Sep’t) has been included in my summary of the remarkable 2020-2021 Koel season which has now been accepted for CBN.  The accompanying paper outlining the rise and rise of the Koel in the ACT shows that based on COG’s Annual Bird Reports Koels were first recorded in September from the GBS 2 wk Sep (which starts on 11 Sep) in 2007-2008. However, before this year on only 3 other occasions was the Koel first recorded in September, at an unclear date in the General records in 2013-2014, on 18 Sep in 2017-2018 and the above two.

We had a Koel on 30 Sept in 2020.

Hi Mark, and all

Your post about the first Koel prompted me to check eBird for early records of Koel in the ACT. There is only one record for September, that being back in 2012 and also on September 26 but in Barton. I also checked COG's Birdata which also indicates September sightings, but likewise very low.

Morning all,

It appears that Canberra's most favourite spring - summer bird has
returned to the local area. This morning on the "Canberra Birders - Rare
and Unusual Sightings" is a recording of a Pacific (Eastern ) Koel from
Narrabundah on the 26th of September. The bird appears to be suffering a
bad dose of laryngitis but is still easily recognisable as a koel.
