This proposal is a few years old now, but a Development Application has now been lodged and a description of the proposed development has just appeared on the RiotACT site (https://the-riotact.com/plans-lodged-for-private-crematorium-on-south-side/494709).
The DA can be found on the ACT govt site (go to https://www.planning.act.gov.au/development_applications/pubnote#S and scroll through to the Symonston entry).

THe land is privately owned, and shares a fence with Callum Brae Reserve. There are a number of mature eucalypts on the site, and the dam (visible from the fence with Callum Brae Reserve) is usually host to one or more Australasian Grebe.

Submissions commenting on the proposal can be made until 29 September.

Personally I'm a bit ambivalent. I had always hoped the govt might acquire the land and add it to the reserve, but with that always unlikely, there are probably much worse  uses than a crematorium. Traffic on Narrabundah Lane might occasionally be an issue.  I'm not sure I'd want to sit and  reflect on a loved one in a memorial garden across the road from the dog pound with its constantly barking dogs!
