Good evening all

I am about to start a small project examining the movement of Superb Parrots between breeding sites in the Molonglo Valley and feeding areas in the Belconnen suburbs.

I aim to get a picture of the number of birds flying into and out of the suburbs, and determine the sex and age ratios at various times during the breeding season.

Chris Davey explained to me that recent radio tracking work showed that Molonglo Valley birds are flying into Belconnen to feed. The often reported birds at the AIS, and those feeding along Benjamin Way amongst other places, are all suspected to be Molonglo Valley birds. My home in Hawker is right under the flight path.

Depending on the number of volunteers available, the plan will be to survey for three one hour sessions a day at least once a month from September to February. Once a week would be even better. Volunteers will sit at five designated observation points along the Bicentennial National Trail, immediately behind the houses on Elsey St and Ambalindum St in Hawker. We will record basic information on provided data sheets. Of course, you must be able to identify Superb Parrots by sight and call. Other than that important bit (!), the survey work will be very straightforward.

Please let me know if you think you might be able to contribute, and I will provide further information to you.

Many thanks

Anthony
