In UK in my youth, and much more recently on Atherton Tablelands during day-night sugar cane harvesting, barn owls fly through vehicle headlights far too close and seem to be poor judges of speed compared to owlet-nightjars (not in UK naturally). The short distance between Kingfisher Lodge and the Highlander pub is a good place to view eastern barn owls, but far too many are roadkills.

They often are “the victim of a vehicle strike.” Or surely more by proportion of their population than are most other birds.

Unfortunately, on my morning walk earlier today in Crace, I came across a dead barn owl. It was on the median strip on Abena Avenue and I suspect was the victim of a vehicle strike.
