G’day Deb and all,
A crew from ACT Parks went out to Callum Brae this morning, but we didn’t find any Swift Parrots, so didn’t set up any Songmeters (remote sound recorders). We may try again at Callum Brae or elsewhere
tomorrow, depending on whether there are many Swift Parrot records today.
We’ll keep checking eBird, but would be keen to hear of any Swift Parrot sightings today/tomorrow morning.
Best regards,
Brian

Lerps can certainly be a large portion of their diet in some years and locations and are often less contended than nectar once flowers emerge.
Swift Parrots often do the leaf bathing - so much fun to watch when it's wild, wet and windy and they swing around in among the branches like there could be nothing better
:)
Does anyone know if there are still birds at Callum Brae? ACT parks has generously offered to put up some songmeters to capture calls for our AI project so would be good
to get any updates on where the birds are up to at both sites today,
I share Geoffrey’s observation about feeding.
I also found their habit of leaf bathing interesting. I have seen them do it on two different mornings. They flap their wings and move
through the dewy leaves of the tree until they are soaked, then go off to preen. One morning the local Eastern and Crimson Rosellas also joined in.
Danny
