Yes. Lorikeets will interbreed, generally when one species is uncommon relative to another or frequently in captivity. Hybrids of Musk X Rainbow also equally Scaly-breasted lorikeets are sort of well known. This does not look like a first generation hybrid to me, maybe a second or third or more generation hybrid with more Musk Lorikeet ancestry than one or both of the other two. The big aviary in Crace has lots of them, showing a range of appearances or did the last time I was there some years ago.

Hi all,

 

whilst at Callum Brae looking for Swift parrots yesterday I saw and photographed a different looking Lorikeet. Same size as Musk, but different colouring. I am guessing some kind of hybrid, possibly Musk X Rainbow, what do you think??
