Further to the comment made by John Bundock  this the email I was sent via the automatic system John Talked about.  It was sent at about 16:15 Local time on Friday ( Time on email is London time (GMT) for some reason) re Fire ban in Saturday.  That email system works well with regards to the ACT. There is an issue with using a NSW app such as 'fires near me" in the ACT as data on fire bans in the ACT are not always totally up to date there it appears.  There is no ACT app.   Oh the joys of living in a Federation....

A Total Fire Ban has been declared for the whole of the ACT for the duration of Saturday 28 December 2019.

Residents are urged to:
> review their Bushfire Survival Plan and know what they will do if threatened by a fire; and
> to stay up to date via esa.act.gov.au, the ESA Twitter and Facebook accounts, local media outlets or by calling Access Canberra on 13 22 81.

The Fire Danger Rating is expected to sit at VERY HIGH tomorrow. The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting dry conditions tomorrow with a predicted temperature of 37 degrees.
 

What does this mean?

During a Total Fire Ban it is an offence to:
- Light, maintain or use a fire in the open air;
- Undertake a high-risk activity. These are activities which may cause fire to ignite, and include welding, grinding, soldering and gas cutting; and
- Use of slashers and harvesting machinery in rural areas.
 
During a Total Fire Ban you are allowed to use gas or electric cooking appliances if:
- The BBQ is under constant adult supervision and attendance
- Three metres surrounding the BBQ is clear of materials that could burn
- A fire extinguisher or continuous supply of water is available for use to extinguish a fire if needed
- Electric BBQs in Parks and Reserves including the National Arboretum Canberra and in Canberra’s urban parks will be available, however all gas BBQs will be turned off.
