There were 3 Pied Cormorants just off the eastern side of Black Mountain
Peninsula while I was paddling yesterday, and again today at least 3,
possibly 4 near Springbank Island.
Has anyone recently done a count of the Silver Gulls around the lake?
Huge numbers presently on Spinnaker Island and the waters thereabouts,
my estimate would be a thousand plus. I also counted 50 dead birds (in
addition to a dead kangaroo) over a 60 metre stretch on the island,
adult birds as well as chicks and juveniles, plus several more dead
lying at the waters edge. Is this a normal pattern for a breeding gull
colony?
