I am an inlander and unfamiliar with migratory shorebirds. This plover was at Congo, apparently a haunt for both Grey and Pacific Golden Plovers. I refrained from flushing it to see the underwing diagnostic pattern. On-line photos of the two seem contradictory.
Field guides mention the larger head of the Grey which this bird seems to have but it also has colour. Any expert opinion welcome.
