Oops. I meant “It (not I) had clearly been hiding in the reeds on the north side.”

Yes not just funny and awesome but impressive. I don’t know how far away we were but I would guess at close to 120 metres. I watched the bird fly across the pond (we had at that time been searching for it for about 20 minutes and I had walked right around the pond). I had clearly been hiding in the reeds on the north side. Steve asked was that a dotterel - we had not seen any dotterels there, I said the colour pattern and flight style matches what I would expect from the CS. I lost it against the grey wall and Steve did better by seeing where it landed. Describing to Geoffrey by reference to the dead sticks and as we watched Lia approach, knowing it would be out of her view. To get identifiable photos of a small bird at that distance with a big lens and no tripod is really impressive. It flew off to the right, over the pond, back to the other side that Geoffrey also caught!

Yes a whole crowd assembled to see this bird. Nice opportunity.  Not especially easy as it crossed from one side and length of the pond to the other a few times. Surely lots of photos were taken. Strangest thing was Lia walked about a metre past it, not knowing, because it was perched on the lower side of the wall, whilst we watched this from far away, having watched it fly across.

Still not great on IDiing these waders. Pre White under, bobbing continuously. Again, on Isabella side now, but very wary and flying several times across pond can't get close enough for phone photo
